The thought of the year 2012 brings to the minds of many images of gloom and doom, death and destruction, and the potential reemergence of mankind from its ashes. In the last few years there have been countless books, movies and television specials discussing what the authors believe will happen on December 21, 2012. After investigating all of the available evidence, I have come to my own conclusion as to what will happen on that highly anticipated date.

Before I jump to the punch line and tell you what I believe, let’s spend a few minutes investigating some of the prophecies that have been associated with the 2012 event.. And, take a look at as some of the theories describing what is believed will happen.

The Maya created a number of different calendars to record the passage of time. One of them is called the “Calendar Round”. We learned about this calendar from a book, known as the Dresden Codex. It was spared the burning frenzy of the early Christian priests in Mexico. The Calendar Round is made up of two separate calendar systems used by the Maya. The Tzolk’on or 260 day Sacred Calendar and the Haab, the 365 day vague calendar. When combined they form a new calendar that measures 52 years.

The Calendar Round can only distinguish 52 years then starts repeating itself. The Mayans needed a more refined dating method. To ensure that dates could be identified over these extended periods, the Maya devised the “Long Count” calendar. We became aware of the Long Count through the study of various stelae found in the ruins of many abandoned Mayan cities.

The Long Count identifies the number of days that have passed since the beginning of the last Great Cycle. A great Cycle has a length of 13 baktuns or 1,872,000 days (5,125.36 years). Once completed, like the odometer on your car, the calendar resets itself to 0 (zero). The accepted start date of the current Great Cycle, as proposed by Sir J. Eric S. Thompson, is August 13, 3114 BCE. By adding 1,872,000 days to August 13, 3114 BC we arrive at the date December 21, 2012 – the “end of the Mayan Calendar”.

While the Mayan Calendar provides us with a date for its completion, some researchers believe that other prophecies support the end of a great cycle is fast approaching. According to the Hopi Indians, as reported by White Feather – a Hopi of the ancient Bear Clan – to a minister named David Young in 1958, these are the signs of the end times:

“The Fourth World shall end soon, and the Fifth World will begin. This the elders everywhere know. The Signs over many years have been fulfilled, and so few are left.”

“This is the First Sign: We are told of the coming of the white-skinned men, like Pahana, but not living like Pahana men who took the land that was not theirs. And men who struck their enemies with thunder.”

“This is the Second Sign: Our lands will see the coming of spinning wheels filled with voices. In his youth, my father saw this prophecy come true with his eyes — the white men bringing their families in wagons across the prairies.”

“This is the Third Sign: A strange beast like a buffalo but with great long horns, will overrun the land in large numbers. These White Feather saw with his eyes — the coming of the white men’s cattle.”

“This is the Fourth Sign: The land will be crossed by snakes of iron.”

“This is the Fifth Sign: The land shall be criss-crossed by a giant spider’s web.”

“This is the Sixth sign: The land shall be criss-crossed with rivers of stone that make pictures in the sun.”

“This is the Seventh Sign: You will hear of the sea turning black, and many living things dying because of it.”

“This is the Eight Sign: You will see many youth, who wear their hair long like my people, come and join the tribal nations, to learn their ways and wisdom.”

“And this is the Ninth and Last Sign: You will hear of a dwelling-place in the heavens, above the earth, that shall fall with a great crash. It will appear as a blue star. Very soon after this, the ceremonies of my people will cease.”

From ABC’s Good Morning America:

“The latest evidence is a brick discovered in the ancient Mayan ruins of Comalcalco that cites the year 2012, the same year inscribed on a 1300-year-old tablet previously found among the nearby ruins of Tortuguero.”

The inscriptions both point to 2012 as being the end of an era, when a Mayan deity of war and creation will arrive. But does that mean time’s up for Earth? Archaeologists say: don’t bet on it.

A writer for The Random Fact explains:

“The Mexican institute … insists that the idea of some kind of world changing event is a Westernized misunderstanding of Mayan calendars. … The Mexican institute stressed that the Maya saw time as a series of cycles that began and ended with regularity, and that nothing apocalyptic should be associated with the ending of a particular cycle…”

Experts say the new inscription has no “future tense” markings, meaning it could refer to a past event rather than a future one. This and other issues are scheduled to be hashed out next week, as a group of scientists tries in vain to counter internet hysteria with facts and research.

From the Daily Mail:

“Given the strength of internet rumours about impending disaster in 2012, the institute is organising a round table of 60 Mayan experts next week at the archaeological site of Palenque, in southern Mexico, to ‘dispel some of the doubts about the end of one era and the beginning of another in the Mayan Long Count calendar.'”

Nothing grabs the attention more than a good end of the world prophecy. Most of them are admittedly humorous, but occasionally one comes along that makes you take notice. This is the case with the 2012 prophecies, which are based on some indisputable truths.

So, what are the 2012 prophecies? There are a number of historical groups who note the end of times on the date of December 21, 2012. Chief amongst these are the Mayans. Go to the bookstore and you will see endless books on the Mayan doomsday prophecy and how we are all going to die on this magical date. The Mayans don’t actually state that anywhere, but who are we to get in the way of books sales! Instead, they created a brilliant clock that counts at different measures of time. The longest version “ends” on our magical date in 2012.

So, just what is the deal with December 21, 2012? Of all the dates in the calendar, what is so special about that one? Well, it turns out that there is a very special event occurring. In fact, it occurs only once every 26,000 years. The event is the alignment between Earth, the Sun and the Milky Way Galaxy. On that day, the winter solstice, the sun will line up with the direct middle of the Milky Way Galaxy.

This is a unique event to say the least. It represents a clear demarcation of the beginning and ending of a period of a longer block of time. It is for this reason that the civilizations that looked to the skies undoubtedly gave it significance and based their prophecies on the coming and going of that date.

So, what will happen? As with every doomsday deadline so far – nothing will happen. Oh, a few million books will be sold and perhaps a movie or two will be released, but the coming of December 21, 2012 is an astronomically significant event that does not carry significance in any other field.

Personally, I love a good prophecy or conspiracy. It peaks the interest and makes you wonder. Much like Y2K was going to be the end all for modern humanity, 2012 will mark a new age in astronomy. To that extent, the prophecies are correct that one time will end and another will start. That said change will bring doomsday is extremely doubtful.

Then again, I could be wrong!

Fresh new look at the Mayan Prophecies and a new perspective of it’s interpretations.

By Matthew Robert Payne

I have read about thirty articles on the Mayan prophecy tonight and have pondered and wondered if I had anything to offer. I though I would share what I feel the Holy Spirit put on my heart.

In dark times God always has an impact on the world. In times of great suffering Christian always grows. We have shifting economies, the USA has got a piling debt, the Chinese are buying gold and selling their US treasury bonds and it seems the world is getting ready for a great shaking. Do I think the world will be over in 2012? I doubt it.

I know a friend of mine has seen the Antichrist in a dream twice an he says he looks a bit like James Morrison of the Doors and he looks like he is in his early twenties. I think that he would have to be about 40 when he takes power. Now few people will believe that so I want to add a little.

The world needs to get a little more immoral. Scripture records that God repented that He made the world when it was in the days of Noah. The world was so wicked then, that he killed everyone save eight people. The world is pretty bad so far, but I feel it would need to be a lot worse for God to kill us all like in Noah’s day. Scripture says that when Jesus returns that the wickedness on earth will be as bad as Noah’s. Tell me does the world that we live in deserve to be wiped out yet or does it have to get worse.

I think that the Mayans could not see further then December 2012 because all that will exist from that point on is darkness. I feel that in the next two years God is going to rain down massive judgments that the whole world will think the end is on its way. A friend of mine got a visit from Gabriel the angel yesterday and this is what Gabriel said:

I was given a scroll by Gabriel and ate it, here is what Gabriel says to the world: we have unleashed the terrors stored up in Heaven for this time, the world will reel and shudder and wobble and groan, many thousands will fall, the trumpets have sounded the time is hear, the four horse men have ridden out, plague famine and death is upon you, you who seek the LORD do not worry do not fear, for The LORD YOUR GOD is with you, but to those who hate The LORD YOU GOD woe be unto you. choose life now while you still can, the hand will be withdrawn very soon, time is short, the woes and wrath of the LORD YOUR GOD is upon you. those that hate the Lord are those that will not obey Jesus commands, those that love Him obey Him, those that hate him serve the world, (John 14:23-24, James 4:4) those that love him give up all for Jesus( John 15:13), do you forake all, if not fear the LORD now and give unto the harvest, if you want to store riches on this earth now, (James 5:1-6) your riches will be taken from you and given to another more worthy(Isaiah 50)

The LORD has spoken, He who has ears to here repent and bring forth fruit worthy of righteousness. He who denies the LORD in this hour and does not heed this warning will be destroyed himself, his family and his house. ( Matthew 7:21-27)

Many of you will be aware of the date 2012, and have some understanding that many people believe it will be a momentous time for our planet. But what is really happening?

We are at an extraordinary point in time – a time which has been foretold by many cultures. It is the ending of one great cycle of 26,000 years and we are just about to start the next, and extraordinary things are happening.

For example, astronomers have discovered that our solar system historically belonged to a small galaxy called the Sagittarius Dwarf galaxy. For millions of years this has been colliding with the Milky Way galaxy, a much larger, more powerful galaxy, which has literally been ‘eating up’ or absorbing this smaller galaxy. We are now just at the moment when our old galaxy is about to fully collapse and be fully absorbed. I believe behind everything physical, there is mind or consciousness, so we are on the point of becoming fully a part of a greater, richer, more vibrant galaxy with all its consciousness and power.

Just think of the implications of this – for all of humankind’s evolution we have been experiencing destructive energy as our home galaxy has been eaten up by the larger Milky Way galaxy. What effect has this had on our psyches? Our sense of belonging? And we are just about to become part of something infinitely richer and more powerful!

At the same time, our solar system, which has been above the meridian of the Milky Way galaxy, is in the process of moving through this meridian, to go beneath it. Both astronomers and elders of various cultures are telling us that we are moving out from a dark part of the galaxy to a lighter part. Gravity is greatest here and scientists are saying that this equatorial area is actually full of energy! Gravity moves in waves out from the centre through the universe and is a controlling factor in its physical structure, and they can see that it functions intelligently. Great globules of energy are being sent out and our solar system is currently being penetrated by these globules of energy, as is our planet.

Many ancient cultures spoke of this time in their legends and prophesies – even the Bible had something to say about this time – Jesus in Matthew 24; St John in Revelations talks about a new heaven on earth; St Paul talks about the last days before the New World ‘In the last days difficult times will come, men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy……always learning, but never able to come to the knowledge of truth’. The prophet Daniel says ‘knowledge shall be increased and men shall run to and fro.’ All this we can see around us today.

The Hindus for thousands of years talked about the Kali Yuga or Dark Age, a time of great materialism and decline in spiritual life from which is born another Golden Age, and believe it is just ending and we stand at the threshold of a new Golden Age. A widespread physical destruction was foretold for the decades we are living through – in effect, a clearing out of the base, the unworthy, that which no longer serves. It is seen as a time of great danger and only those who follow their inner heart and live in harmony with the universe will survive.

December 2012 has become the most recent date for the “end of the world”, “inflection for change”, “earthly conflagration” or “peaceful new age cosmic torrent”. Why do I pose so many possibilities? Because right now, you can go to the internet, churches, chat rooms, book stores or your local cafe and find people who believe some of the above and more.

From using Edgar Cayce as an authority, to Bible-thumping, Armageddon-believing preachers, from New Age Prophets to Astro Authors, where ever you go right now – and for the next three years, you will find people with a “specific belief in 2012”.

What Do You Believe About 2012?

Don’t laugh. As time goes on over the next 3 years, someone will ask you what you believe about 2012, and you will have to come up with a belief, or sound terribly uninformed! What do people believe? And how has this all happened?

Public awareness of the Mayans, and specifically the “shamanistic priesthood” of the Mayans who were amazingly atuned to the stars and had a specific astrology that measured earthly happenings, has skyrocketed with recent research and books about an “end of the world” scenario that is amazingly – just a turn around the corner in cosmic time. In a little while, scholars, thinkers and writers have put together a body of quotes from Merlin to the I Ching, from the Koran to Sufi Seers, from Kabbalistic talk of the “end of days” to St. John’s visions.

Never before has “date setting” for the “end of days” met with so many parties’ ear perking attention. How did Mayan Astrology meet with such sudden credibility and attention? That is a story in itself. Suffice it to say, that the Mayans have gone from a group that was – in the public mind, just a collection of old South American peoples, as in the “Mayans, Aztecs and Incans” to a far sighted group of astrological seers who were prophetic geniuses. The technicality of the prophecy has to do with the coming together of astrological events all at the same time. One of the cycles is said to be concluding after 26,000 years. This makes many people from very divergent philosophical points of view perk up. People who decry astrology, like fundamentalist Christians, have their own view of when “Christ is going to return”; and even though they don’t believe in astrology, the 2012 scenario has a harmonic ring to it, even for them. Those who have left fundamentalist Christianity and have now become New Agers are in a particular state of anticipation, since both their former and their present systems have a belief in “something dramatic happening in the not too distant future”.

2012 is the completion of the ancient Mesoamerican Long Count Calendar Cycle – but the Maya of today no longer track the Long Count Cycle. Conservative estimates say it’s been at least 500 years since they have, since at least the time of the Spanish Invasion. The last Long Count Calendar inscription recorded in stone is from 909 AD, more than a thousand years ago.

Currently, there are at least 7 million Maya living today. The largest populations of contemporary Maya inhabit the Mexican states of Yucatan, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, and Chiapas, and in the Central American countries of Belize, Guatemala, and the western portions of Honduras and El Salvador.

Depending on who you talk to, one can find evidence that some living Maya endorse the 2012 date as being of critical importance, while some may not be aware of it, or do not necessarily agree with its projected significance. Some think it is a matter for the shamans and priests, and do not relate to the westernized apocalyptic themes we’ve married the 2012 date to.

“We are now in a transition period called the ‘Cycle of the merge of the dark and the light.’…The cycle of the light will come in full force on 12/21/2012Mother Earth as a living entity will transcend to another level or frequency of consciousness and a new and special era will begin…This era will be very positive. ‘Let all beings rise. Let not one or two stay behind. ‘The times are here for total brotherhood…The spirit beings, different philosophies; different races must begin to weave together all knowledge to create the tapestry of harmony and balance”

From a different perspective most contemporary Maya continue to view these cycles of World Emergence purely in terms of ‘cycles within cycles’ Many are aware that the 2012 end date was supposed to signify such a transition, but they are not altogether convinced that this date is as meaningful as we Westerners think it is.

Along these lines, 13th Generation Quiche Maya Priest and Head of The National Mayan Council of Indigenous Elders in Guatemala representing 440 Maya tribes, is hesitant to pinpoint 2012 as the certain date of destiny. He is weary of putting false claims on the exact timing of a process he knows is in motion. However, according to them whom they authorized to speak to the world on his behalf, he has recently declared that we are now in the Window of the End of Time, meaning the closing of the Great cycle is upon us. He has said that due to the fulfillment of the Hopi Blue Star prophecy on October 24, 2007, brought by Comet Holmes, it is likely that the transformation to a New Cycle of the Sun will occur sometime between now and 2016.

The Folktale

In the early winter of December in the year 2012, the Mayans and many other ancient cultures of antiquity have predicted the ‘return of the gods’ in their literature and other records. This return is actually the return of a consciousness that humans have not seen in tens of thousands of years, going back to when we were humans in spirit form. It is this divine consciousness that we lost long ago that is now termed ‘the fall of man’. In a nutshell ‘the fall of man’ was a series of events that caused human beings in the spirit to become desirous for themselves and thus become human beings ‘in the flesh’ which was the ‘fall’ part. Our selfishness (desire to seek for the self alone) separated us from God and so we then manifested physical bodies in the physical world and still reside in these physical bodies today.

This means, in simple terms that the frequency that our consciousness operated on was lowered because of our lack of sharing, and it was lowered to a point that we could not maintain our spiritual bodies (today known as the light-body) and as a result we became physical creatures with physical creature issues, like needing to eat and getting rid of bodily waste as well as the need to breathe air to survive. We no longer had Gods divine essence surging through us in sufficient enough quantities and so needed to live like the physical creatures that we had become. The problem with this is obvious in that if you have all of these physical needs and symptoms that make you selfish, how can you get back to the spiritual body where none of these physical issues exist.

The Cycle

When the ‘fall of man’ occurred, it happened to us as a collective. This meant that everyone experienced this fall together as a race of beings. In December of 2012, we collectively will experience a raise of our consciousness through a raise in our frequency of our nervous system and this raise in our frequency is the return of the gods that the Mayans spoke of.aise in. This will happen to us as a result of a shift of our solar system and galaxy that occurs every thirteen thousand years.

Our planet takes a year to go around our sun one time, and our sun takes twenty-six thousand of our years to go around the center of our galaxy one time. High energy particles escape from the series of black holes in the center of our galaxy shooting out cosmic material in only one direction (instead of all directions) in a way that divides our galaxy in half with one half (equaling the first thirteen-thousand years) getting a constant fresh supply of new matter, and the other half of our galaxy getting no constant fresh supply of direct new matter material (equaling the second thirteen-thousand years). We need twenty-six thousand years to make one full revolution of one half fresh new cosmic energy and the other half no fresh new cosmic energy.
