The thought of the year 2012 brings to the minds of many images of gloom and doom, death and destruction, and the potential reemergence of mankind from its ashes. In the last few years there have been countless books, movies and television specials discussing what the authors believe will happen on December 21, 2012. After investigating all of the available evidence, I have come to my own conclusion as to what will happen on that highly anticipated date.

Before I jump to the punch line and tell you what I believe, let’s spend a few minutes investigating some of the prophecies that have been associated with the 2012 event.. And, take a look at as some of the theories describing what is believed will happen.

The Maya created a number of different calendars to record the passage of time. One of them is called the “Calendar Round”. We learned about this calendar from a book, known as the Dresden Codex. It was spared the burning frenzy of the early Christian priests in Mexico. The Calendar Round is made up of two separate calendar systems used by the Maya. The Tzolk’on or 260 day Sacred Calendar and the Haab, the 365 day vague calendar. When combined they form a new calendar that measures 52 years.

The Calendar Round can only distinguish 52 years then starts repeating itself. The Mayans needed a more refined dating method. To ensure that dates could be identified over these extended periods, the Maya devised the “Long Count” calendar. We became aware of the Long Count through the study of various stelae found in the ruins of many abandoned Mayan cities.

The Long Count identifies the number of days that have passed since the beginning of the last Great Cycle. A great Cycle has a length of 13 baktuns or 1,872,000 days (5,125.36 years). Once completed, like the odometer on your car, the calendar resets itself to 0 (zero). The accepted start date of the current Great Cycle, as proposed by Sir J. Eric S. Thompson, is August 13, 3114 BCE. By adding 1,872,000 days to August 13, 3114 BC we arrive at the date December 21, 2012 – the “end of the Mayan Calendar”.

While the Mayan Calendar provides us with a date for its completion, some researchers believe that other prophecies support the end of a great cycle is fast approaching. According to the Hopi Indians, as reported by White Feather – a Hopi of the ancient Bear Clan – to a minister named David Young in 1958, these are the signs of the end times:

“The Fourth World shall end soon, and the Fifth World will begin. This the elders everywhere know. The Signs over many years have been fulfilled, and so few are left.”

“This is the First Sign: We are told of the coming of the white-skinned men, like Pahana, but not living like Pahana men who took the land that was not theirs. And men who struck their enemies with thunder.”

“This is the Second Sign: Our lands will see the coming of spinning wheels filled with voices. In his youth, my father saw this prophecy come true with his eyes — the white men bringing their families in wagons across the prairies.”

“This is the Third Sign: A strange beast like a buffalo but with great long horns, will overrun the land in large numbers. These White Feather saw with his eyes — the coming of the white men’s cattle.”

“This is the Fourth Sign: The land will be crossed by snakes of iron.”

“This is the Fifth Sign: The land shall be criss-crossed by a giant spider’s web.”

“This is the Sixth sign: The land shall be criss-crossed with rivers of stone that make pictures in the sun.”

“This is the Seventh Sign: You will hear of the sea turning black, and many living things dying because of it.”

“This is the Eight Sign: You will see many youth, who wear their hair long like my people, come and join the tribal nations, to learn their ways and wisdom.”

“And this is the Ninth and Last Sign: You will hear of a dwelling-place in the heavens, above the earth, that shall fall with a great crash. It will appear as a blue star. Very soon after this, the ceremonies of my people will cease.”

In November of 2007, Mayan Elders from all the tribes got together to give us the true interpretation of the Mayan prophesy about December 21st 2012, which some have called “the end of time.”

Don Alejandro Cirilo Perez Oxlaj a 13th generation high priest and elected leader of the National Mayan Council of Guatemala will select 25 high authority elders to give us an accurate interpretation of the Mayan glyphs. Don Alejandro or Grand Elder Wakatel Utiw(his Mayan name) is the primary keeper of the teachings, visions and prophesies of the Mayan people

They had also invited the chiefs of aboriginal cultures around the world. The Kogi, Arhuaco and Wiwa Mamos from Columbia, the Waitaha and Maori elders from New Zealand, the Hopis of North America and many others who wish to be present with the Mayans at this time. This long awaited announcement got little if any media attention but it will be of great importance to all humanity. Many have waited a long time for the Mayans to gives us the true meaning of the much publicized date.

December 21, 2012 is the end of the grand cycle according to the Mayan calendar. It is the end of the 13th Baktun and 13th Ahau, a 5200 year cycle that is ending in our lifetimes. Exciting times from my perspective. It is the day that the calendar ends. There is no record for the sun to arise the next day. Does this mean the end of humanity?

The Mayan calendar has been the most accurate calendar the world has ever known. They have a knowledge of how the universe works and it’s truths that is second to none. The amazing part is that this information has been with us for over 4000 years. It is only now that the Mayans and the information they have recorded in glyphs is getting the respect and attention it deserves.

What did they say? How did they interpret these prophesies?

To get the full text as to what they said will have to wait till sometime this year. The transcription of the elder gathering is being compiled into a book which will be signed by the entire National Mayan Council of Guatemala so the world knows for certain that this is the real Mayan prophesy.

I believe that I have found the essence of what they said from quotes attributed to Don Alejandro Oxlaj. These are statements he has made since the pilgrimage.

“At the time of the 13 Baktun and 13 Ahau is the time of the return of our Ancestors and the return of the men of wisdom. That time is now. Arise, everyone, stand up! Not one, nor two groups be left behind the rest. This prophecy is in reference to all: rich or poor, black or white, men or women, indigenous or non indigenous, we all are equal, we all have dignity, we all deserve respect, we all deserve happiness; we all are useful and necessary to the growth of our planet to make it a place where we can live with respect among the different cultures.

Is this really happening right now, new humans on a new planet earth? Are we being given the opportunity to become a world where love, wisdom and compassion are replacing hate, ignorance and judgement? Are we evolving to the next step of human consciousness? Stepping into unity consciousness from the present consciousness of duality. There is a lot of evidence given to us from indigenous cultures and also from present day “new age” channels that would support a positive answer to this question.

The Hopi Indians have called this time we are approaching as “the days of purification.” Many have prophesied this time as the “Great Shift of the Ages.” Some religions have their own description of a time where the messiah will return. That messiah is us right now. Revelations in the New Testament describes a time that many translate as an end to the human race. This can also be translated as a new beginning for mankind if read from this perspective. The Hindu Yugas have shown that we are entering the cycle of awakening from our sleep into the Satya Yuga or golden age.

The most famous of these prophesies comes from the Mayans of Central America. The end of the Mayan long count calendar comes on December 21st 2012. This is the end of the grand cycle that has lasted over 5000 years. If we have the belief that life is eternal then this date may be looked at as an end but also a new beginnings. The circle begins again. If you listen to the Mayan Elders of present day they have told us that this is a time for a new human to emerge. A human that has the attributes of knowing that we are one with all things. That we can live in peace and harmony with each other knowing that we are all perfect. The time of realizing these truths is right now and according to the Mayans a mere four years from now.

There have been many masters throughout history that have left us clues to help us remember who we truly are. The most famous being Jesus and Buddha and Muhammad. All have told us to look within to remember that we are masters too. They anchored into human consciousness the potential for the changes in humanity that I have been discussing throughout this series.

Saint Francis of Assisi, the Sufi poet Rumi, Leonardo Da Vinci, William Blake, and many more, have all contributed to helping us through their works to see the truth of our being. More recently Albert Einstein, Edgar Cayce, Mahatma Gandhi the Dalia Lama all have messages of empowerment if we choose to interpret them from that perspective.

Present day “new age” channels like Lee Carroll who channels Kryon has been giving us the information about now being the time for humans to wake up to a new way of being. Kryon since 1989 has been giving us the nudges to help us remember. Steve Rother, the channel for the Group, in his book “Remember” lays out the groundwork for us to know how the new human will be. Geoffrey Hoppe who channels Tobias has offered invaluable guidance for those who know that this lifetime is the most important lifetime in human history.

Since the Harmonic Convergence in 1987 when we chose to take the next step into the path of enlightenment many things have changed in our world. The Berlin wall came down. The Soviet Union harmonized with the west. The global communication structures like the Internet have brought us closer to each other, giving us the ability to see that we are all the same. The integration of cultures that we are experiencing now is unmatched in human history. Quantum physics has revealed unseen dimensions and truths about the control we have over our reality. Science in general is uncovering clues to the concept of the unity of all things. With the invention of the computer the human knowledge base has expanded with unparalleled speed in the last 25 years. It is all contributing to the end result of awakening humanity.

The Earth herself is undergoing these vibrational shifts as well, evidenced by changing weather patterns, global warming and geological episodes that have no precedent in recorded history. Just as matter changes state with changes in temperature and pressure, the earth, and by extension, our bodies, are affected by the magnetic field and frequency or vibration of our planet. The magnetic field around the earth is weakening along with the increasing vibration of the earth. Both these factors are allowing for us to change our state or perspective on our reality. This is an involved topic which I will leave for another time. Suffice it to say that the signs of unprecedented change are all around us if we choose to interpret them as signs of the great shift happening right now.

The Mayan societies disappeared from this planet centuries ago. Today few people have any knowledge or understanding of who the Mayans were or what they left behind. Mayans possessed an extreme knowledge of the solar system and the cycles that control it. As a result of this knowledge they created twenty two calendars. The calendars were used to mark time, of course, but were also created for another reason. Calendars created by the Mayans also documented prophesy and changes in our social structure. Many people are talking about prophesy and the Mayan calendar today. Let us take a look at why that is happening.

The last day on the calendar created by the Mayans is December 21, 2012. This is striking fear in some people and many believe it marks the time of the end of the world. But some people believe it means something else. People who are not shuttering in fear understand the meaning of the prophesies and calendars in a different way.

The deep understanding of the solar system is the first place to look for a deeper meaning to the calendar. One prophesy described the end date to be the beginning of a period of extensive change and evolution around the globe. It describes a time when societies move away from destructive behaviors and move in the direction of harmony and peace instead. 1999 was the time for this process to begin and it was said to last for thirteen years, which is when the calendar ends.

Cycles of the universe can be explained through Mayan understandings. They believed these cycles are fixed, and what really changes are the behaviors and attitude of the human race. It is possible for a cataclysm to occur, but this would only take place if humans refuse to alter their points of view during the transition period. In other words, they prophesied that our future on this planet depends upon our own ability and willingness to make the changes we need to make.

2012 is the completion of the ancient Mesoamerican Long Count Calendar Cycle – but the Maya of today no longer track the Long Count Cycle. Conservative estimates say it’s been at least 500 years since they have, since at least the time of the Spanish Invasion. The last Long Count Calendar inscription recorded in stone is from 909 AD, more than a thousand years ago.

Currently, there are at least 7 million Maya living today. The largest populations of contemporary Maya inhabit the Mexican states of Yucatan, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, and Chiapas, and in the Central American countries of Belize, Guatemala, and the western portions of Honduras and El Salvador.

Depending on who you talk to, one can find evidence that some living Maya endorse the 2012 date as being of critical importance, while some may not be aware of it, or do not necessarily agree with its projected significance. Some think it is a matter for the shamans and priests, and do not relate to the westernized apocalyptic themes we’ve married the 2012 date to.

“We are now in a transition period called the ‘Cycle of the merge of the dark and the light.’…The cycle of the light will come in full force on 12/21/2012Mother Earth as a living entity will transcend to another level or frequency of consciousness and a new and special era will begin…This era will be very positive. ‘Let all beings rise. Let not one or two stay behind. ‘The times are here for total brotherhood…The spirit beings, different philosophies; different races must begin to weave together all knowledge to create the tapestry of harmony and balance”

From a different perspective most contemporary Maya continue to view these cycles of World Emergence purely in terms of ‘cycles within cycles’ Many are aware that the 2012 end date was supposed to signify such a transition, but they are not altogether convinced that this date is as meaningful as we Westerners think it is.

Along these lines, 13th Generation Quiche Maya Priest and Head of The National Mayan Council of Indigenous Elders in Guatemala representing 440 Maya tribes, is hesitant to pinpoint 2012 as the certain date of destiny. He is weary of putting false claims on the exact timing of a process he knows is in motion. However, according to them whom they authorized to speak to the world on his behalf, he has recently declared that we are now in the Window of the End of Time, meaning the closing of the Great cycle is upon us. He has said that due to the fulfillment of the Hopi Blue Star prophecy on October 24, 2007, brought by Comet Holmes, it is likely that the transformation to a New Cycle of the Sun will occur sometime between now and 2016.

Interview with writer Erich von Däniken (Chariots of the Gods), covering the subjects of Maya culture, 2012, crop circles and more.

By Jerry Benson

2012 is right around the corner, and we’ve all heard the rumors and theories about what’s going to happen. What’s the real deal with 2012 though? What are some of the prophecies that are floating around and is anything really going to happen? Read on to learn about some of the alleged 2012 prophecies to see if there’s any truth to the rumors.

First 2012 Prophecy: The world is going to end. This is a widely held belief that in 2012, after the end of the Mayan calendar, the world is going to end through some catastrophic disaster. As far as any scientist or astrologist can tell this is completely false and the transition to 2012 will be just like any other new year. However, no scientists can understand how the Mayans themselves were able to get such an accurate grasp of the universe around us by charting stars and the movement of planets. Till to this day scientists are boggled by their accute understanding of earth’s place in our galaxy.

Second 2012 Prophecy: The end of the Mayan calendar signals a switch in consciousness. Depending on who you ask and what you choose to believe this may or may not be true. The Mayan calendar ends in 2012 but it also starts again, just like our calendar. Whether or not there is a real consciousness shift will depend on the events near or around the new year of 2012. Scary even more to believe, is the research that has been done on human consciousness. Researchers have found that the human bodies own electromagnetic field zeros out when one has an out of body experience. They have also found that our electromagnetic field is directly influenced by the earths… so, one can only wonder, what would happen to our consciousness in the event of a complete polar shift? Scientists are already finding that the earth’s magnetic field is decreasing, hinting that a polar reversal may be near…

“These are the Signs that great destruction is coming. The world shall rock to and fro. The white man will battle against other people in other lands — with those who possessed the first light of wisdom. There will be many columns of smoke and fire such as White Feather has seen the white man make in the deserts not far from here. Only those which come will cause disease and a great dying.

Many of my people, understanding the prophecies, shall be safe. Those who stay and live in the places of my people also shall be safe. Then there will be much to rebuild. And soon — very soon afterward — Pahana will return. He shall bring with him the dawn of the Fifth World. He shall plant the seeds of his wisdom in their hearts. Even now the seeds are being planted. These shall smooth the way to the Emergence into the Fifth World.”

The signs, over the years, have been interpreted as follows: The First Sign is the arrival of the white man with his guns. The Second Sign is of the pioneers’ covered wagons. The Third Sign is of longhorn cattle. The Fourth Sign describes the railroad tracks. The Fifth Sign is a clear image of our electric power and telephone lines. The Sixth Sign describes concrete highways and their mirage-producing effects. The Seventh Sign foretells of oil spills in the ocean. The Eighth Sign clearly indicates the “Hippy Movement” of the 1960s. The Ninth Sign was the U.S. Space Station Skylab, which fell to Earth in 1979. According to Australian eye-witnesses, it appeared to be burning blue.

The Hindu Yuga cycle has also been linked by many as supporting the December 21, 2012 date. According to Hindu Tradition, the length of all life here on earth is described as one day in the life of Brahma, the god of this universe. When Brahma awakens, the universe appears. When he sleeps, it disappears. It is said that one day in the life of Brahma lasts for 4,320,000 years.
